Christine’s Home in Malawi

malawi_big.jpgChristine’s Home in partnership with Hands On Missions were able to open an orphanage in Malawi, Africa on Grace Farms and Children’s Homes, of which we named the orphanage, Christine’s Home. Hands On Missions and Christine’s Home (Shelby) help to support the Malawi orphanage, which serves 36 children within the home and feeds 100-120 orphaned children in the school. Grace Farms is an extensive 1,050 acres farm specializing in cattle, chickens, goats, corn, macadamia nuts, soy beans, peanut seed, and other seasonal projects. Grace Farms employs many Malawian villagers providing desperately needed jobs and food for their families. Grace Farms also has their own electric oil press which enables them to provide for the orphans and sell the remaining cooking oil at a reasonable price. Hands On Missions sends yearly medical teams to Malawi to provide care to area villages, schools, and Grace Farms employees and orphans. Teams consist of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Registered Nurses, Dentists, Optometrists, Nursing Assistants, Dental Hygienists, and non-licensed volunteers. Teams provide acute care via mobile medical clinics which travel from village to village with free medication distribution, wound care, public health education, namely general health, dental, sanitation and clean water, malaria prevention, and nutrition education. The teams also hold mass toothbrush, toothpaste, and vitamin distribution. They also work with area physicians to provide advanced prenatal education classes. Therefore, Christine’s Home and its supporters are not only contributing the life of a child here locally, but also globally.
